New Blog: My newest poetry collection, Catacombs of the Heart, is now at home in the world. Huge thanks to Jason Ryberg and Luchador Press/Spartan Press. Crazy to think that the cover image is a real photo from the Paris catacombs taken by Dirk Wenzel. Even stranger, to me, is that the heart still had a sort of emoji all those centuries ago. Here is what folks are saying about the book:
“Catacombs of the Heart explores the loveliest and the most dreadful corners of existence. Its bittersweet accounts will break your heart, inspire you to see beauty in the mundane, and even, at times, make you laugh out loud. A gorgeous and powerful collection through and through.” -Zara Lisbon, author of Fake Plastic Girl
“From emojis to the names of roses to death to kisses, every poem in Mathieu Cailler’s Catacombs of the Heart turns the deceptively common into the extraordinary. Emotional, innovative, and often humorous, Cailler’s poems remind us that to be human is to experience the heart in all of its complexities, all of its twists and turns.” -Elizabeth Schmuhl, author of Premonitions
“A deeply moving portrayal of the complexities of the human heart. We all carry our own catacombs and Cailler’s sharp, but balanced command of language makes his poems accessible and relatable. They deliver the message that maybe none of us are as alone as we think.”
